Yep, we’ve heard them all and we get it! Our former name, San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum, was a bit of a mouthful and a little confusing. After all, how could we be “San Diego” when we’re based in Escondido?  

So, we got to work.  

We listened to our members, gathered anonymous feedback, consulted with our staff, and reflected on who we are and how we could capture the vibrance of the Museum in a new name and logo.  

The first step? Simplifying the name.  

“Discovery” stayed front and center because it’s what our littlest visitors do best, and we removed “San Diego” to avoid location confusion and keep things short and sweet.  

Children’s Museum of Discovery, or CMoD for short, is a name that will grow with us as we continue inspiring young minds across San Diego County and beyond.  

Nostalgic. Playful. Colorful. Welcoming. Those are the feelings we wanted to bring to life in our new logo.  

• The blue, red, and yellow colors are a nod to the classic primary palette with a fresh, modern twist.  

• The block shapes reflect the Museum’s role in providing the foundational “building blocks” for lifelong learning.  

• The slightly offset blocks represent the joyful, imperfect, and creative ways children play and explore.  

• And the arch? That’s our doorway into discovery, the same one every family walks through when they step inside the Museum.  

While we may have a new name and logo, everything you love about the Museum is here to stay.  

From beloved exhibits to hands-on STREAM activities and programs, the Children’s Museum of Discovery continues to spark curiosity and celebrate the power of play. We can’t wait for you to join us as we turn the page on this exciting new chapter.
