STREAM Activity: Paper Plate Seagull

Soar into Creativity with this Seagull Craft!

Activity best for children ages three and up

Summer is the perfect time for splashing in the waves, building sandcastles, and enjoying the beach. But what if the sand was covered in trash and the water wasn’t clean? It wouldn’t be fun for us or for the plants and animals that call the coast their habitat. Seagulls and other seabirds can get hurt when they mistake trash for food, which is why water conservation and keeping our beaches clean is so important. Today, we’re making a paper plate seagull to celebrate these noisy, wave-chasing birds that share the shore with us.

VOCABULARY

  • Habitat: Provides animals and plants shelter, food, and a place to reproduce and survive.

  • Water Conservation: Animals that depend on clean water to live depend on us to make mindful choices to keep the water and coastline clean.

STEP 5

Our seagull needs to be able to walk and eat! With your black marker, draw legs at the bottom of your bird. Then take your orange paper and cut it into a circle. This circle will be cut in half to make our bird’s beak.
